We would like to express sincere gratitude to our shareholders for their continued understanding and support of our endeavors at MEISEI.
The end of the COVID-19 pandemic is not yet in sight, and so we would like to send our deepest condolences to the victims of this disease and their families, and also express our sympathy to those affected by the virus and pray for their speedy recovery. We would also like to express gratitude and respect to all medical staff who work tirelessly in diagnosis and treatment during this crisis.
COVID-19 is having a major impact on the global economy. At MEISEI, we have been able to maintain operations through thorough implementation of strict infection prevention measures at factories, offices and even construction sites. Even so, operations have declined in part because of the supply chain. Our manufacturing schedule was affected due to delayed parts supply. For that reasons, our FY2020 sales and operating incomes were lower than initially forecast. In FY2021, we want to ascertain supply chain status in a timely manner, aim for production as planned and achieve our targets.
There were also more severe disasters by earthquakes and typhoons, so in order to contribute to the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), we intend to develop and provide products, systems and services that bring about the safe and secure society put forth in our corporate philosophy. To this end, in addition to the sale and maintenance of measuring instruments, we are building systems on a global scale for disaster mitigation and prevention infrastructure, including hydrology systems for rivers and dams. Then, utilizing data both from these systems and satellites, we create more advanced and high value-added information, forecast potentially disaster-causing weather conditions and create the business that provides information to streamline industry operations. Through these endeavors, we set out to contribute to the achievement of SDGs worldwide.
Furthermore, we develop cameras, sensors and control devices that are mounted on the rockets and satellites employed in space development and utilization. As mentioned before, these enable terrestrial weather and disasters to be monitored from space, while also helping to unravel the mysteries of the birth of space and life itself, contributing to the collection of data needed for human life in order to thrive on the moon and other planets in our solar system. We would like to evolve the science and expand the range of human activities to usher in a bright future for humankind.
We also intend to actively promote digital transformation and improve productivity through the transformation of our businesses and operations. We will realize a way of working that corresponds with our new way of life, including remote work, and diversified working hours and time off, in order to navigate society both during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Through this, we will secure hires and continue our business endeavors to generate profits for all our stakeholders.
