Successful Launch of the International Mercury Exploration “BepiColombo” aboard Ariane-5

International Mercury Exploration “BepiColombo” aboard Ariane-5 was launched from the Guiana Space Centre, Europe’s spaceport in Kourou at 10:45 (Japan Standard Time, JST) on Saturday, October 20, 2018.

The “BepiColombo” project is International cooperation mission of ESA (European Space Agency) and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency). It was equipped Mercury Magnetospheric Orbiter “MIO” (MMO) developed by JAXA and Mercury Planetary Orbiter (MPO) explorers developed by ESA.

The products which were developed by MEISEI as follows.

■Mercury Magnetospheric Orbiter “MIO” (MMO)
-Mercury Dust Monitor (MDM)
-Mass Spectrum Analyzer (MSA)
-Mercury Sodium Atmosphere Spectral Imager (MSASI)
-Mercury Ion Analyzer (MIA)
-Energetic Neutrals Analyzer (ENA)
-High Energy Particle instrument for Ion (HEP-I / TOF)
-Sun Particle Monitor (SPM)

■Mercury Planetary Orbiter (MPO)
-Probing of Hermean Exosphere By Ultraviolet Spectroscopy (PHEBUS)
-Far UltraViolet (FUV)
-Extreme UltraViolet (EUV)

“BepiColombo” is going to arrive at Mercury in about 7 years and to observe for about 1 year.
