28 Dec. 2022

The employee who participates as the principal investigator

The employee of MEISEI, whose proposal has been selected for the Third Research Announcement on the Earth Observations issued by the Earth Observation Research Center (EORC) of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), will participate in the collaborative research as the Principal Investigator (PI), in succession from the Second Research Announcement on the Earth Observations.

The main theme of this collaborative research is to solve social issues related to weather and climate. The employee will challenge for the analysis of the development mechanisms and the accuracy improvement of forecast technology of synoptic meteorological phenomena (typhoons, linear rainbands, etc.) and localized weather change phenomena (tornadoes, downbursts, etc.) with mutually utilizing ground surface observation data from POTEKA high density meteorological observation network and satellite observation data from GSMaP(1) and other sources. These results will be reported not only to JAXA but also to the international research organizations, including NASA, in the Joint PI Meeting, which will be held at the end of this fiscal year.

MEISEI will contribute to the development of science and technology in Japan and in the world, and will make every effort to solve the social issues facing humanity.
